Touch Football Match Standard definitions
This article outlines the definitions of the Match Standards that are recommended. As far as we can determine these are the current definitions within the sports they associate with.
Intensity or Game Tempo
Fast
- Several clean breaks
- A few intercepts
- Very quick tap penalties
- Very quick Rollballs
- A lot of ball movement
- End to end in 3 to 4 touches
- Fast hit ups (dumping)
- Whole game is at a sprint
Medium
- Some quick Rollballs
- Some ball movement (game could be restricted to the channel)
- Full sets of 6 to go end to end
- Hit ups at an even pace and play is reasonably predictable
- Some sprints but the majority of the game is at a fast jog
Slow
- Slow Rollballs
- Slow hit ups
- Slow ball distribution
- Several sets of 6 required to go end to end
- The game is completed at a jog
Degree of Difficulty
Hard
- Poor player skills
- A lot of change overs due to dropped ball (5 m to 5 m)
- Poor environmental conditions (very hot, very cold or very wet)
- Poor player discipline – 5 m control problems
- Poor player rule knowledge
- Player discipline issues – sledging, excessive force in touches
- Poor team official discipline
- One sided match (scores, experience or skill levels)
- Strained referee/player rapport
Medium
- Reasonable player skills
- Some change overs due to dropped ball (5 m to 5 m)
- Less than comfortable environmental conditions (hot, cold or wet)
- Reasonable player rule knowledge
- Player discipline issues – repeated minor offences, players not listening to referee calls or decisions
- Players’ replacement options invoked by referee
- One sided match (scores, experience or skill levels)
- Referee/player rapport could be better
Easy
- Good player skills
- Very few change overs due to dropped ball (5 m to 5 m)
- Good environmental conditions
- Good player rule knowledge
- Little or no player sledging/excessive physical play
- Players’ replacement options invoked by referee
- Referee/player rapport is good
