Parent/Guardian Guidance for Competition Registration
To support parents/guardians we provide the capability to create multiple SportsM8 profiles under one Sports M8 account. Each parent/guardian will have individual requirements in the way they want to manage their child’s registration based on the level of independence that they wish to allow their child within our platform. We have attempted to accommodate this need and can summarize the possible options as follows. The exact configuration will depend on your specific scenario and may differ slightly from these suggestions.
The following options are targeted towards the scenario where you as the Parent/Guardian ARE NOT participating/officiating at the competition along with your child.
Option 1 Create a SportsM8 account in your name as the parent/guardian. Create a SportsM8 Profile in your Child’s name, then when you join the competition it will be there profile and details that is linked. If you have additional children to register, create a SportsM8 Profile* for each child and switch between profiles when registering.
The advantage to this option is that you can login as yourself into SportsM8, but can see all your children’s profiles within the competition.
The disadvantage to this is option is that the children do not have their own login. Should the children need to log into the portal while at the competition, you would need to share the login details with those children to allow them to check the appointments themselves. Obviously a potential security concern and please make sure you are not using a common password you use on other sites.
Option 2 Same as above but create the SportsM8 account in the name of one of the children, then again create a SportsM8 profile for each child as necessary. Think of this as giving the older sibling the ability to login and pass the information onto the younger sibling, or a single child the ability to login as themselves. we recommend you will still have the ability to login to the platform and view the information by knowing the SportsM8 Account authentication details.
The advantage to this option is that you can login (as the first child) but can see both children’s profiles within the competition.
The disadvantage to this is option is like the first option where only one child officially has a SportsM8 account to login, so that child would be responsible for informing the other children of their details, or the children would need to share the login details between them if they needed to check the appointments themselves.
Option 3 Each child has their own individual SportsM8 account and SportsM8 Profiles, then joins the competition individually from that login/profile combination.
The advantage to this option is that each child can login and track their own games etc.
The disadvantage to this option is that as the parent/guardian you would need to log in as each child separately to see or manage their details and availability. However that may be ok if the trade off is to give the children more independence.
The following options are targeted towards the scenario where you as the Parent/Guardian ARE participating/officiating at the competition along with your child.
Option 4 Create a SportsM8 account in your name as the parent/guardian, then create a SportsM8 Profile in your name. Then create additional SportsM8 Profiles for each of your children. When you join the competition first use your SportsM8 Profile to register, then switch to your child’s Profile and register. Repeat as needed for additional children.
The advantage to this option is that you can login as yourself into SportsM8 and see your details/appointments/etc, but you can also see all your children’s details/appointments/etc within the competition as well.
The disadvantage to this is option is that the children do not have their own login. Should the children need to log into the portal while at the competition, you would need to share the login details with those children to allow them to check the appointments themselves. Obviously a potential security concern and please make sure you are not using a common password you use on other sites.
Option 5 Create a SportsM8 Account & Profile combination for both yourself and each of your individual children separately. Then join the competition individually from each of those account/profile combinations.
The advantage to this option is that yourself and each child can login and track their own games etc.
The disadvantage to this option is that as the parent/guardian you would need to log in as each child separately to see or manage their details and availability. However that may be ok if the trade off is to give the children more independence.
Ultimately the decision as to which way to manage this is yours to make as the parent/guardian. There are different options as each parent will have different levels of independence they want to give to their child.
The level of independence you choose to give to a child may change over time too. It’s ok if you want to have full control at the present time (Option 1), but want to increase the level of independence and change to another option at a later date. Our support team is happy to assist should you need to make changes to any configuration as we can migrate profiles to a new account.
Option 5 example steps
This is targeted towards the scenario of a parent/guardian wishing to register their child at the same competition. The key factor is that the parent/guardian is participating/officiating at the tournament along with the child.
To add a new child/linked profile to your existing membership.
- First follow the steps to create a SportsM8 Account for you to use as a login to SportsM8
- Next, create a SportsM8 Profile in your name
- Next, click the “Manage Profiles” button in the user menu (top right of the top menu bar, or under Users on mobile view).
- Create a SportsM8 Profile for each child
- Switch to your Profile using the Switch Profiles menu bar button, or from the Users menu on mobile.
- Now follow the steps to register your profile into the competition
- Repeat the previous two steps, switching to each of your child’s Profiles and registering those as needed into the competition
Accessing the Child profiles
A new “Switch member profile” dropdown will appear at the top of the Registration and the My Appointments pages to allow you to easily alternate between the profiles and view/edit the relevant information.
The following video contains a walk through of this new feature.
Remember when registering multiple profiles you are still bound by the terms and policies of our site.
